Meet Craft Canine Treats

Meet Marc and Meghan Betourney, the couple behind Craft Canine Treats– a baked dog treat company that utilizes the spent grains from local breweries. They are based out of Tampa, Florida and dontate 10% of sales to local animal rescues and organizations. Their treats are available for purchase on their site.

Tell us about yourself! What made you want to start your business?

In early 2018, Meghan and Marc Betourney combined their passions for good brews, the environment, and animal causes to create craft canine treats.

When you buy Craft Canine Treats, you can feel good about giving your furry friends all-natural ingredients and partnering with us as community-loving, socially conscious consumers. A portion of all profits from Craft Canine Treats goes back to animal groups to support their good work in our Tampa Bay community. From our packaging to the grains from local breweries, we believe in recycling and upcycling. Hand in hand with the community and paw in hand with our pets- We're all in this world together.

We work from our home that is equipped with two ovens so we can get a lot of baking done. A typical day involves lots of flour and stamping our packaging that is made from recycled paper.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned since starting your small business?

As a husband and wife team, we have learned about what tasks each other enjoys and have been able to lean into what we do best. For instance, Meghan loves to bake and Marc prefers to do the books!

What are your goals for the new year?

We have been working with local businesses and vendors showing how our homemade treats can add a personal touch to your events whether you are a realtor hosting an open house or a bride wanting to give personal favors to their guests.

What are you inspired by lately?

We are inspired by the hard work that our local pet partners do in the community.  They have been affected by COVID in various ways and are still going above and beyond for the animals and people in need in our local area.

And, what inspired your holiday collection?

People love their dogs, love items that are homemade, love items that are from small local businesses and most of all love giving back to the local animal community.  Their gift of Craft Canine Treats to their neighbors, friends, co-workers, and family hits on many of the themes of the holidays.

Any advice for people looking to start their own business?

Do your research and ask others who have done so before.  We are grateful to the other entrepreneurs who have welcomed us to this small business, shop local family and given us invaluable advice.

What about for the people looking to find their style?

Think about what you are drawn to, what you want your product to say.  For instance, we are continually finetuning our style in our social media. Also think about what you would like to be known for.  We are proud of our relationships that we have built and that personal touch flows through our business.

You’re based in Tampa. What are your favorite spots there?

You can always find us at a local dog friendly brewery!
